Trainer Kris Lees is hoping some luck from awkward barriers provides him with several winning chances at Tuesday’s Central Coast Club’s Challenge raceday at Wyong.
Trainer Lees, who currently sits in second position in the NSW trainer’s premiership, will be saddling up three key hopes who all come to the races after being very competitive in their most recent starts.
Lees has two-year-old filly Sasso Corbaro entered in the Wyong Golf Club 2YO Fillies Maiden over 1100m. The $290 000 purchase by China Horse Club is having just her third start at the races after running two strong seconds at Canterbury.
Lees believes that the filly will be very competitive in the race.
“She’s been unlucky in her two previous starts but she’s a high-class filly who is due for a change of luck and if she gets any luck from that wide barrier she should be in the finish.” Lees said.
In the Doylo Advantage Plus Class 1 Handicap over 1350m Lees has three-year-old filly Unbridled Power entered and the daughter of Snitzel looks to be extremely well placed.
A $290 000 purchase the filly is owned by Walter Power’s Power Thoroughbreds and is coming off the back of two solid runs at Gosford.
“She’s had no luck in her two runs back which have both been at Gosford over shorter ground,” Lees said.
“Stepping up to the 1350m should suit her as it looks like she will relish the extra ground and with a bit of luck she should be right there in the finish.”
Lastly Lees has boom horse Launch Code entered in the Munmorah Bowlo Class 2 Handicap over the 1000m. Formally trained by James Cummings before he became Godolphin head trainer, Launch Code came to Lees with big raps on the three-year-old son of Smart Missile.
Launch Code has only had the one run for the Lees stable when he ran an unlucky ninth at Warwick Farm only beaten 2.8 Lengths.
“He just raced a bit fierce outside the leaders last start which caused him to weaken a touch at the finish,” he said.
“But he is a very nice horse who should really appreciate the drop-in class back to the Provincial and I think he will be very competitive.”
Local trainers Damien Lane and Kim Waugh will continue to battle out the Wyong trainer’s premiership as they both look to add some local winners to their already impressive season tally’s.
Lane has trained 35 winners for the season and is 3 wins clear of both Kim Waugh and fellow Wyong trainer Allan Denham.
