Mark Zahra has such an opinion of Madeenaty he started a strict diet two weeks ago to ensure that he could ride her at 54.5kgs in Thursday’s $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions Two Year Old (1100m).
“He has a very high opinion of her and there was no way he was not going to ride her,” his manager, Reece Murphy, said. “Mark knew two weeks ago he would be riding her at Wyong so he started the diet then to make sure he was spot on with the weight.
“It is a big deal for Mark to ride at that weight but then he thinks this filly is the real deal.”
Zahra rode in Melbourne today then went straight to the airport to fly to Sydney.
“Mark did not want to be flying up in the morning and risk something going wrong,” Murphy said.
Madeenaty, the odds on favourite for the Wyong Two Year Old and the early favourite for the $2.5 million Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic at the Gold Coast next month, arrived in Sydney on Tuesday morning and settled into the stables that co-trainers David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig have at Randwick.
Ben Hayes will fly up on race morning to saddle her up. “She has done well since she arrived and everything is going to plan,” Racing Manager, Rayan Moore, said.
“We have the visitors draw (barrier 10) but she has loads of speed and Mark should be able to get her across to the fence or sit one off the fence. “She will come back to Eurora on Friday and go to the paddock for a freshen up before we get her ready for the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast.
“She will follow a similar path to that which Capitalist followed last year.
“The timing of the Wyong race as a lead up to the Gold Coast is perfect.
“We are lucky with the our Euroa set up in that we can put her in a paddock and let her get over Wyong but keep up her fitness on the water walker.”
The training partnership rate Madeenaty as their best two year old on the strength of her brilliant win in the Maribyrnong Trial in October. She then ran third down the straight course at Flemington last month but Zahra said later she was on the worst side of the track and the run should be ignored.
The Bjorn Baker trained Egyptian Symbol is the early favourite for the Magic Millions Wyong Three and Four Year Old while Madotti, trained at Murwillumbah by Matthew Dunn, is at $8 in early markets.
Yet Madotti relegated Egyptian Symbol to third place when she won the Group Three Vo Rogue at the Gold Coast in late December last year. “It seems a bit silly but Egyptian Symbol meets us so much better at the weights,” Dunn said.
Originally $10 was being offered about Madotti but she shortened two points with the scratching of the well fancied Mediterranean.
Tye Angland, who is aboard Madotti at Wyong, rode her to that Gold Coast win and also at her following start when she ran fifth in the Magic Millions Three Year Old Guineas. “She was unlucky in that race because of the wide barrier,” Dunn said.
“She was also unlucky the year before in the Magic Millions two year old when she ran fourth.”
Madotti has been at Gerald Ryan’s Rosehill stables all week under the care of Dunn’s wife Keira and will go home after tomorrow to be set for the $1 million QTIS All-Aged Hcp (1200m) at the Magic Millions carnival at the Gold Coast next month.
