Lamma Hilton has form against some of the top fillies in the country in last year’s Group 1 Oaks and subsequent black type races in the Sydney Autumn.
On Thursday the four-year-old lines up in the 1600m Class 2 Handicap at Wyong and new trainer Jason Coyle is hoping it will be the start of a successful preparation.
The four-year-old by Casino Prince has had a win and four placings from 19 starts all over the 1600m or further.
“She was formerly with the Cummings stable and has run a couple of okay races in some pretty strong races,” Coyle said. “They put her through the sales and she was picked up by Dynamic Syndications. We are just going to try and bring her through her grades.”
Lamma Hilton had two trials before resuming at Hawkesbury on September 28 over the 1300m.
She finished seventh in a field of eight but Coyle considers the step up in distance at Wyong will really suit her.
“Hawkesbury the other day was always going to be too short for her but she was a tad disappointing not running on.
“When we looked at the sectionals they were very sharp and really gave her no chance at all of finding the line.
“Her trials leading into that run were nice enough for a horse who is going to get over 10 furlongs. We just want to see how improved she can be running on late. She will get better as the races get longer.”
The Coyle stable also has Chavo lining up in the same race.
He is also coming off a 1300m Hawkesbury run on September 28.
“He’s a horse that will also appreciate the step up in distance. The furtherest he’s been is a mile and he ran second to a pretty handy horse.
“This preparation he looks like he has come back a bit more dour. Tye (Angland) has been on his back a few times and he suggested once he gets to the 10 furlongs we might find the right metro mid-week race.
“He’s just got to get the right run off a nice tempo on Thursday and he should be in the finish.”
Assertin Mischief completes a trio of runners for Coyle with the five-year-old resuming in the 1200m Class 2 Handicap.
By More Than Ready, the mare was impressive in her second preparation with back to back wins and two placings from four starts. But she failed to regain that form last time in and Coyle sent her out for a lengthy spell after she finished out of a place in all three starts.
She resumes following two handy trials and Coyle admits he’s anxious to see how she performs on the track.
“If she can revisit that old form she’s going to be a serious player and she can head to town for the right races at some stage.
“She showed nice ability two preparations ago and worked through her grades with a couple of wins on the Beaumont track which were quite comprehensive.
“We had some nice plans for her last preparation and I thought she would step up into city grades races but she was really disappointing so we tipped her out and gave her a good break.
“Both trials this preparation have been super and hopefully she can revisit that old form.
“She had a really good break and has the best coat on her in the stable at the moment.
“She’s always been a pretty sharp track worker so we’ve just got to take her back to the races and see what she can produce.”
Assertin Mischief will be ridden by Jess Taylor, who partnered the mare to both her career wins.
