Gerald Ryan is full of confidence heading into Wednesday’s ATC Christmas At The Races Metropolitan meeting with three strong chances.
The Rosehill-based trainer considers consistent mare Mollyfied to be the best of his trio of runners but expects all three to perform well. “They are all coming to the races in good form, fit and well,” Ryan said.
“I’ve got three consistent horses and hopefully it could be a good day.”
Mollyfield is no stranger to Wyong, having won over 1100m and placed third over 1200m, at her only two starts on the track. The four-year-old Star Witness mare is shooting for her third win from just 10 starts when she lines up in the 1200m LIMITLESS LODGE PRE TRAINING HANDICAP.
“She is ultra consistent. I’d like to have a whole stable like her,” Ryan said. “In her past eight runs she hasn’t finished any further back than third.
“With the claim on Wednesday she gets into the race pretty well, carrying only 56kg.
“The track won’t present any problems because she has run really well at Wyong in the past.”
Mollyfied will be ridden by apprentice Jean Von Overmeire, who has teamed with the mare for her past two starts including a win at Gosford over 1200m on November 2.
Ryan believes Moonmo, who is having her third career start in the 1600m WYONG MAGIC MILLIONS DECEMBER 21 HANDICAP, has the makings of a “nice, strong filly.”
By Uncle Mo, Moonmo hit the line strongly at her last start when she finished a close second behind TIki Bar over 1300m at Gosford on November 15. “She is a big filly and gives the impression that she will run on.
“At Hawkesbury last start she raced a bit green and new still. She really hit the line well so the extra distance at Wyong should suit her.
“Jay (Ford) has ridden her in a trial and at her last start. He knows her which helps.”
The race looks very strong with seven of the eight runners coming off placings on metropolitan and provincial tracks.
Red Element colt Elementae completes Ryan’s runners, with the three-year-old starting from barrier five in the 1350m LIMITLESS LODGE BREAKING IN PLATE.
“He’s no star but he’s getting there and Tim (Clark) thought the step up in distance from 1200m would suit him.
“He was good first up at Gosford where he finished third over 1200m. He is a bit head strong but does go really good.
“A bit of rain would be good because I think a bit of give in the ground will suit him.”
Josh Parr will partner Elementae, with the eight-horse field also looking very strong.
