WYONG’ S $150,000 Provincial Championship Qualifier this Thursday is shaping up to be a high quality race with 21 nominations.
The 1350m Wyong heat will again kick off the Provincial Championship Series and a large crowd is expected.
Michelle Ritchie’s five-year-old Better Not Blue, currently listed as $11 favourite in early markets to take out the series, is among the nominations.The Kembla Grange based gelding was third in the Wyong heat last year and is resuming from a spell.
Leading Provincial trainer Kris Lees has six horses nominated including Australian Bloodstock’s Princess Posh, who will be shooting for her third successive win, and Savabeel gelding Reach For Heaven, of who the stable have a very high opinion.
Kim Waugh has lightly raced four-year-old Oxford Magic among her three nominations. The gelding was a Class 1 winner over the 1350m at Wyong on February 1.Bao Zheng, another of the Waugh nominations was an eye-catching second when resuming at Wyong over 1350m on February 12.
Jeff Englebrecht has Lady Jivago nominated along with consistent five-year-old Hammond Lane.
Other locals in the nominations include Allan Kehoe’s Epic Dan, a winner at his last two starts, Another Aan for Les Tilley, Brian Garvey’s Libertine Miss and Damien Lane’s All But Gone.
With Canberra horses included for the first time, two ACT trainers have nominated. The Keith Dryden/Scott Collings training partnership have nominated the consistnet Beau Tirage, while Philip Courtney has Maryore.
Final fields for the race and meeting will be out on Tuesday morning.
