Sunday racing at Wyong this weekend and the meeting is expected to be dominated by Sydney-based trainers. However, Wyong-based trainer Kristen Buchanan will fly the flag for the locals with the former Victorian Macquarie Magic in Race 7 the Christmas Party’s at WRC Call Now Handicap and the gelding has bright prospects.
In his first start in this state he bolted in on this track on August 27. Last Saturday Macquarie Magic was only two lengths from the winner after a bump at the start and a chequered path in the straight. Paul King has ridden the 6yo in both starts and he has the mount on Sunday.
RACE 1 (WWW.TAB.COM.AU 3YO MAIDEN, 1600m): African Rainbow has been a beaten favourite in both starts this prep but she gets to her right distance on Sunday. The filly was narrowly beaten at Warwick Farm before a spell and she ran on well in a black type race at the Scone Carnival in May. Huang Yaoshi hasn’t been far away in two Victorian starts and Cincity can improve.
SELECTIONS: 5 AFRICAN RAINBOW, 4 HUANG YAOSHI, 3 CINCITY
RACE 2 (GREAT NORTHERN ON TAP AT WYONG MAIDEN, 1350m): Tutu is ready to win after two close up runs this prep. She was a well backed favourite when beaten three lengths at Hawkesbury first up. She was a bit green last start when runner up on the Beaumont track on September 5. The blinkers go on for the first time on Sunday. Mr Kylin has been placed in his two starts this prep and the extra trip will suit. Antonio’s Pride was placed on the Beaumont track last start and he has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 3 TUTU, 6 MR KYLIN, 1 ANTONIO’S PRIDE
RACE 3 (MELBOURNE CUP DAY LUNCHEON BOOK NOW MAIDEN, 1000m): The speedy Shudabeen is well placed under the set weight conditions and she is the best of the day. The filly was second favourite in the Wellington Boot in March but dropped the rider soon after the start. First up at Canterbury on August 30 Shudabeen was run down late when a close second. I Am Special lost her rider in her only start when favourite at Muswellbrook recently but she had trialled nicely prior to that run. Mowayuncle has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 7 SHUDABEEN, 2 I AM SPECIAL, 6 MOWAYUNCLE
RACE 4 (GO ELECTRICAL RACEDAY AT WYONG THURSDAY OCTOBER 12 CL 1, 1000m): Thistledo has good speed and he led all the way to win first up at Gosford last start. He was an easy trial winner prior to the first up run and he wasn’t far away in a strong race on this track in February. Catmosphere looked good when he led throughout first up at Wyong and he has had a trial since. Right As Rain is first up after a close third behind Global Glamour in a trial.
SELECTIONS: 1 THISTLEDO, 5 CATMOSPHERE, 4 RIGHT AS RAIN
RACE 5 (CHARLIE ZAMMIT MEMORIAL MAIDEN, 1200m): Persia was costly to punters when runner up as an odds on favourite on the Beaumont track in her only start on September 5. She had trialled okay and the filly should atone here. Discussions is first up after two trial wins and he is the obvious threat. Red Zephyr hasn’t raced since a close second at the Wagga Cup Carnival in May.
SELECTIONS: 5 PERSIA, 8 DISCUSSIONS, 3 RED ZEPHYR
RACE 6 (H&H CATERING NSW REGIONAL CATERER 2017 CL1 HANDICAP, 1350m): Masterati was very good winning on the Beaumont track on September 5. He was placed in his previous two starts and he is a front runner who will be hard to run down. Concisely is back in distance after failing over the mile on this track. Her prior form was good. Cedarwood is a last start winner and has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 1 MASTERATI, 2 CONCISELY, 4 CEDARWOOD
RACE 7 (CHRISTMAS PARTY’S AT WRC CALL NOW BM60, 1600m): Macquarie Magic overcame a check at the ‘500’ and was held up on the home turn before racing away to win on this track two starts back. He had excuses last start at Newcastle and the 1600 trip looks ideal. Labrooke won his first race for some time when successful at Tuncurry earlier this month and his provincial form is okay. Pretty Smart is a winner here and she is racing okay.
SELECTIONS: 2 MACQUARIE MAGIC, 1 LABROOKE, 6 PRETTY SMART
RACE 8 (MAGIC MILLIONS AT WYONG THURSDAY DECEMBER 21 BM74, 1000m): Bella Vino has solid form for this race. She won two on the trot at Kembla last spring and she was narrowly beaten in two Moonee Valley starts earlier this year. The mare is quick and has had a recent trial. Hillary Step is first up and she goes well fresh while Azzie’s Ready is a speedster with good country form.
SELECTIONS: 1 BELLA VINO, 3 HILLARY STEP, 5 AZZIE’S READY
