WYONG TRAINERS should have a strong representation in next Wednesday’s Provincial Championship Qualifier at Gosford with 10 locals among the 40 nominations released today.
Kim Waugh’s Hetty Heights, who took out the 2016 Newcastle Qualifier held at Wyong and was ninth in the final beaten just over two lengths, is a likely runner over the 1200m.
The five-year-old mare will be resuming from a spell after looking impressive when scoring a nice trial victory at Wyong on February 27.
The Waugh stable has also nominated Snitzel gelding Calabasas, who was a close second on the Beaumont track when resuming on February 25. The three-year-old, raced in partnership by Kim and her husband Mark, has had eight starts for a win and four seconds.
Damien Lane also has two horses nominated Mr McBat and Kate’s Pearl, both resuming from a spell.
Mr McBat was third at Warwick Farm at his last start in November, while four-year-old mare Kate’s Pearl has had two wins and four placings from 16 starts.
Jeff Englebrecht’s Lady Jivago and the Norm Rogers trained Alaskan Wolf, who finished tenth and ninth respectively in the Wyong Provincal Qualifier on February 23 are also among the nominations.
Bob Holloway has five-year-old gelding Oscar’s Choice, a five times winner among the nominations, while Ken Tynan has Eyebea Dancer, a four-year-old Dubai’s Choice mare, nominated.
Oakfield Sunrise, who resumed with a fifth on the Beaumont track on February 25, has been nominated for the Kristen Buchanan stable, while Les Tilley’s Beautiful Crown mare, Di’s Diamonds, will be first up from a spell if she starts in the qualifier.
Fields will be out Monday morning.
