Tracey Bartley admits has little idea how his talented filly Cudabeen will handle rain affected going but said he had no option but for her to resume in the Ladies Day Sunday August 28 Two Year Old (1000m) at Wyong on Tuesday.
“There are not a lot of options and she is ready to go,” the Wyong based Bartley said.
“She has not had a trial but she has had several gallops and we will just to have to wait and see how she handles the conditions.
“Barrier 14 is not a great concern to me because she is always a bit slow out.
“She is a very good filly and she showed that with her win at Kembla Grange and again her second at Rosehill.”
The track is a heavy 8 but and with Tuesday predicted to be windy but fine course manager Chris Allen said there is a chance of an upgrade to a soft 7, either before the meeting starts or as it progresses.
Grant Buckley has ridden Cudabeen at her both starts and retains the ride here.
Cudabeen’s second at Rosehill behind Scarlet Rain was an indication of her ability.
She came from near last on the turn to finish within a head of the winner with Scarlet Rain then going on to win the Group Three Sweet Embrace.
Scarlet Rain followed that up with a last in the Golden Slipper but Tommy Berry told stewards he eased her down in the straight when she started to make a respiratory noise.
Cudabeen is the second horse Bartley has trained for breeder Michael O’Donnell.
The first, Naretha, ran second on debut at Wyong on June 30.
Bartley had another second at the same meeting with Tears In Heaven and both horses will run at Grafton on Thursday, Naretha in the Big Maiden and Tears In Heaven in the Mother’s Gift.
“We’ll be heading up on Tuesday evening,” Bartley said.
The horse that Cudabeen has to beat is the Joe Pride trained top weight Kentucky Miss (Sam Clipperton) which is also resuming here.
She was a Warwick Farm winner on debut before running seventh in the Widden Stakes (beaten 3.7 lengths), fifth in the Sweet Embrace (three lengths) and sixth in the Magic Night (3.4 lengths).
She has been readied for this with a trial at Warwick Farm where she ran fifth but after winning the start was allowed to drift back and was never extended.
