Three and possibly four of the runners in the Kooindah Waters Resort Two Year Old (1000m) at Wyong on Wednesday will be returning for the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions Two Year Old Classic (1100m) on December 22.
The Gary Moore trained Stanley Park, Legal Girl, trained by Clarry Conners and the Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott trained Madonnica are all headed for the Wyong Classic then hopefully the $2 Million Magic Millions Two Year Old at the Gold Coast next month.
Our Instinct, trained at Port Macquarie by Neil Godbolt, is an outside possibility of also following that path.
Legal Girl (Brenton Avdulla) is the early favourite for Wednesday, just ahead of the unraced Madonica while Stanley Park is on the third line of betting.
However the ever confident Moore has a high opinion of Stanley Park and considers him equal to All Too Huiying which runs at Rosehill on Saturday.
“They are the best two year olds in my yard,” Moore said.
“Stanley Park is a precocious type, he has drawn well and his work last Saturday morning was very good.
“His second trial, when he ran fifth, was very good and Glyn Schofield did not knock him about.
“However the horse still showed plenty of speed to lead early, settled back off the lead then came again in the straight to lead again before being eased down.
“We will be back at Wyong for the Magic Millions then hopefully we will go on to the Gold Coast.”
Moore will also aim Mount Panorama at the $100,000 Wyong Magic Millions Three and Four Year Old Stakes (1200m) on Classic day as a stepping stone to the Gold Coast.
The horse has been freshened up after running sixth, beaten 2.7 lengths, in the Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington on October 29.
Adrian Bott said Madonnica was being given an introduction to Wyong in preparation for the Classic.
“This race gives her an ideal progression into the Classic then hopefully on to the Gold Coast,” Bott said.
“She is a nice, sharp type and this race looks ideal.”
Gai Waterhouse has had a runner in the Wyong Classic virtually every year since its inception in 2003 and has won it with Pulsator, She’s Meaner and Bright Expectations.
Conners, who has put bridles on hundreds of two year olds and some of them very good two year olds, said Legal Girl had a touch of class about her.
“She is a nice filly, she has drawn well and she has a good rider,” Conners said.
“Hopefully we will be back for the Classic then go on to the Gold Coast.”
Legal Girl has had one start for a second to Serena Bay in a Kembla Grange two year old last month and Serena Bay then went on to win the Golden Gift at Rosehill.
Since then Legal Girl ran a good third in a trial at Warwick Farm after missing the start.
Godbolt concedes that first starter, Our Instinct, deserves to be one of the outsiders in the field but said he had no other option.
“It is so hard to find two year old races in the country and while there are some smart horses in the field this will give us some sort of a gauge about him,” Godbolt said.
“I thought his first trial at Taree was very good but I was not happy with the way he was ridden in the second trial.
“Let’s see what he does in this race before we look any further ahead.”
