Last year the Kris Lees trained Electric Power finished second to Sure And Fast in the final of the Provincial Championship at Royal Randwick.
Lees is planning a major assault on this Championship and Electric Power is one of five horses that Lees has nominated for Wyong’s $100,000 Provincial Championship Qualifier (1350m) on Thursday, March 3.
Nominations for the Wyong Qualifier close tomorrow morning (Friday).
Last year Electric Power ran second in the Hawkesbury heat, to qualify for the final, at her third run back from spell.
She goes into this year’s Wyong Qualifier first up after a long spell and following trials at Gosford and Wyong.
One of Lees’ other nominations is Powerline which won last year’s Gosford Qualifier before running ninth in the final.
Powerline was sent to the paddock after failing in last year’s final and resumed from a long break to win the Malcolm Cusick Stakes at Gosford.
He then failed at Doomben before running a good second on the Beaumont track at Newcastle behind the Kim Waugh trained His Majesty, one of the early favourites for the final.
An interesting early nomination is Better Not Blue, trained at Kembla Grange by Michelle Ritchie.
He is the winner of three city races and ran fourth in the Gold Coast Guineas last year.
Better Not Blue will also be going into the Wyong heat first up and with one trial.
